⚖️ Policy, Legislation, and Law

The EU’s public consultation on farmed animal welfare draws a record 230,000 responses, with near-unanimous demand for a cage ban and equivalent welfare standards on imports.
Switzerland’s Federal Supreme Court rules that “milk” cannot appear on plant-based product labels in any form.
💪 Animal Advocacy Org Updates
The Coalition to Abolish the Fur Trade and 17 grassroots groups secure a major win as global online marketplace Etsy bans all fur sales effective 11 August 2026, following protests across the US, Mexico, UK, and Belgium.
The Laboratory of Social Entrepreneurship’s Theory of Change Makers program incubates two new animal welfare nonprofits in Latin America: Centinela, a corporate transparency initiative monitoring animal welfare outcomes in Chile and Mexico, and DeNovo, which advocates for in-ovo sexing technology to end male chick culling in Chile.
Mercy for Animals Latin America exposes Mexico’s first octopus farm, coinciding with the introduction of a federal bill to ban octopus farming permits, as part of the Pulpos Libres coalition alongside Aquatic Life Institute, Animal Naturalis, and others.
