🧡 Introductions
Our #01-introductions channel is a great way to get to know the community. Haven’t had a chance to introduce yourself? It’s never too late! Here are some recent intros:
My name is Emmanuel Sani, I'm a Nigerian Lawyer and Programmes Officer at PROMAD Foundation
I’m Karry! I’m currently a Design Director but am now transitioning to align my career with my passion for animal welfare.
I'm Wendy. I’m an ethical vegan, dog foster, and tech geek! I work at the Humane Society of the US as the Program Manager of Tech Training.
I'm Heidi Røneid. I work as a journalist, I have started and run a vegan festival and I can contribute with press ideas and tips, as well as tips on how to run a festival.
I'm Zuleka Waldman. I’m based in Bulawayo Zimbabwe. My country is very behind when it comes to the vegan movement and I would like to be a part of the solution.
I'm Oisín (pronounced "uh-sheen") and I'm a recent university graduate from Ireland. Over the past year, I've been coordinating the Plant-Based Universities campaign at my university, Trinity College Dublin. I hope to use Hive to learn from all of you amazing people.
💡 Discussions
Want to start a discussion or get other opinions? Ask away in the #02-discussions!
Coming soon to the EA Forum: Animal Welfare vs Global Health Debate Week. (Oct 7-13th). It would be great to see some well-thought-out discussions about this topic, which often seems like an elephant in the room. Please put any debate points and requests for feedback on draft posts in the thread.
Something that puzzles me is why public opinion surveys consistently show people say they care a lot about animals... and yet do nothing about it. One explanation may be that real-world decisions always involve tradeoffs. Is this something that people have investigated?
At the recent International Animal Rights Conference, I watched three presentations that made me think deeply about the balance between wild animal suffering and rewilding. What are your thoughts on this topic?
Could Neural Interfaces lead to a better understanding of the sentience and suffering of animals, leading to a societal push towards improving animal welfare?
